Uthmaan (Radi-Allahu 'anhu)

He is Uthmaan bin Afaan bin Abi-Aas bin Umayah bin Abdi-Shams Al-Qureshi Al-Amawi- the most known Kunyah for him is Abu Amr.

He was born in Makkah. He accepted Islam very early at the hands of Abu Bakr. He was rich and honourable in pre-Islamic period.

He was the first to migrate for the sake of his religion to Abyssinia with his wife Ruqayah the daughter of the prophet (Sala allahu alayhi wa Salam). The rest of the Muhaajireen followed him to Abyssinia, and then he migrated the second migration to Madeenah.

He was from the greatest men that Islam strengthened through in the time of its appearance.

From his greatest of actions is – preparing half of the army of Al-‘Usrah (battle of Tabook), he gave 300 camels fully prepared for battle, he also gave 1000 deenar.

Caliphate was giving to Uthmaan after the death of Umar (radiya-Allahu ‘anhu) in the year 23AH. Armenia, Caucasus, Khurasaan, Karmaan, Sijistaan and Africa were conquered during his caliphate. He completed the gathering of the Quran and was the first to add expansions to the Haram in Makkah and the prophet’s masjid. He established the Sunnah of the first Adhaan in Jumu’ah, and recruited police and many other virtues.

His caliphate lasted 12 years. He died as a martyr when he was killed Friday the 18th of Dhul-Hijjah in the year 35 AH at the age of 82.
